Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness Through Career and Technical Education
May 15 @ 1:00 am - 2:00 pm EDT
Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides a valuable pathway for supporting students and youth experiencing homelessness by offering accessible programming in both secondary and postsecondary settings. CTE focuses on equipping these individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to secure living wage employment in relatively shorter periods of time than associates or bachelors degree programs. Through practical, hands-on learning and a curriculum tailored to real-world job markets, CTE helps break barriers to employment and fosters long-term economic stability and independence for some of the most vulnerable youth. In this NCHE webinar that is tailored for school district staff who support students experiencing homelessness, participants will:
- Learn what is CTE including the benefits and how to access CTE programs.
- Gain an understanding of the Perkins V Act which authorizes the Career and Technical Education Act and the intersection with the McKinney-Vento Act.
- Discover how to access CTE data and use data to increase outreach to students experiencing homelessness.
- Hear outreach strategies for partnership access to CTE programming to increase success for students experiencing homelessness.
