Rebecca McSwain joined NCHEP in June with nearly three decades of work advocating for students experiencing hardships and trauma. Before joining SERVE, she served as the homeless liaison for New Hanover County Schools. During her time with the district, she worked with the NC Department of Public Instruction to pilot the Check and Connect program, a resources that brought qualified mentors to high school students at risk of not graduating. She also represented the school district on the county’s Judicial Attendance Council and coordinated with UNC Wilmington on the placement of social work interns. Before these roles in the district, Rebecca was a school social worker and the MTSS team chairperson.

Rebecca earned her Bachelor’s in Social Work from UNC Wilmington. Being born and raised as a native Wilmingtonian, Rebecca delights in all aspects of coastal living while also appreciating the value of travel. She has three children and enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending concerts, participating in karaoke, and competing in trivia events with her husband.
