Jess Anderson currently provides education technical assistance for Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project sites around the country, as well as working on various strategic planning education initiatives within North Carolina.
Jess started at SERVE in July, 2011 as SERVE’s state liaison to North Carolina. She provided technical assistance and quick turnaround research to DPI leadership and practitioners on topics ranging from reading achievement to extended learning opportunities.
Before coming to SERVE, Jess worked as a Research Specialist at CNA Education in Alexandria, Virginia under the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Appalachia contract. While there, she worked on the communications team to translate research for non-academic audiences, created and coordinated research to practice events for practitioners, and managed the REL’s Governing Board. Before working at CNA, Jess was a reading teacher and an ESL teacher in the U.S. and rural Japan and a residential counselor for pregnant and parenting teens in Massachusetts.
Jess holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Northeastern University and a Masters in Public Policy from Duke University.
Jess spends time outside of work on local politics and adventures with her spouse and two children.
